Visit Your Local Library for Summer Fun
Posted by thunsicker in Uncategorized on July 17, 2015
One of my favorite local resources here in Vinings and Buckhead are our local libraries. Both Cobb and Fulton counties have great branches in the area. We love our local Vinings branch library; their summer program theme is “Superheros!” and their events schedule looks pretty “super!”
From story hour for toddlers, summer reading programs for all age groups (including adults), special guest speakers, classes, art competitions and family movie screenings, the libraries are a wealth of activities that are great for your brain and your budget.
Take a look at the websites for the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System and Cobb County Public Library System I’ve linked here, find the closest branch and see what cool (literally- they’re air conditioned!) summer programs they have coming up in July and August.
Main Event, a New Atlanta Birthday Party Option
Posted by thunsicker in Uncategorized on January 7, 2015
Parents, there is a new indoor play venue that opened up near us on just a couple of months ago that I wanted to tell you about. Main Event Entertainment in Atlanta is right below the AMC theatre on Cobb Parkway inside the perimeter and has bowling, laser tag, rock climbing, gravity ropes, an arcade with lots of games for kids and a sports bar (with some happy hour specials) for adults where they can catch a game on TV or play pool while the kids go play. With the weather getting so cold, it’s a great spot for birthday parties or just an indoor play day. The first time we were there was for a birthday party and the boys could run wild and play laser tag several times. You no longer need to be at a party to play, just sign up! They are running a Winter Funpass special that starts at around $15 per session right now which gives you unlimited access to a lot of their activities. I’ve had several friends who have been there at least five times in the last couple weeks and I’ve heard nothing but good things. I actually got to sit at a counter and have snacks and watch a football game while the boys played. Of course they were checking in quite often as they always wanted more money on their play cards!
I wrote a post a while back about all the birthday parties I’ve planned for Chase over the years and I think I’m going to add this one to my list. His birthday is in October so while I usually have warm-weather outdoor options, I also need to keep an indoor option in mind in case it’s chilly and this place covers a pretty broad age range (it’s amazing how fast they grow up and won’t fit in a bouncy house anymore!). So if your kids have an upcoming birthday or just have a lot of energy to burn and not enough square footage in the house to corral them, Main Event is a fun close-by option.

Join Us for Dinner Tonight: Vinings Fish Company
Posted by thunsicker in Restaurants, Vinings on August 19, 2011
Well, I’ve decided I have to personally try each restaurant in Vinings with friends and children and get locals’ comments.
Tonight we’re trying Vinings Fish Company. I’ve wanted to try it for awhile and have stopped by for a glass of wine with friends, and saw that they have a childrens menu, so tonight we’re going.
I also found out that if you live within walking distance – (which many of us do) you can eat on the patio with your dog! They’ll actually bring your dog a bowl of water. More on dogs and Vinings soon…
You’re welcome to join us at 6pm for a fun experience. I’ll post our comments and pics when we’re done. Click here to see what we thought of Vinings Fish Company.
Here are some of the reviews I found online and we’ll post our own after this evening. Feel free to join us!
